Midsummer Light Dreams

Date: Sat 14.08.2010 - Sun 22.08.2010
Sandra’s ‘Midsummer Light Dreams’ exhibition takes you from the balmy summer shores of Lake Zurich into a mystical world of skyscapes and dreams inspired by one of the best known love poems of WB Yeats: ‘He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven’. Her paintings invite you to reflect on the grandeur of the ‘heavens' embroidered cloths’ – of nature in its many moods – of memories of ‘golden and silver light’ filled times as well as those of ‘the blue and the dim and the dark cloths’. The poem hints at the power of our dreams and the risks we take when we lay them before those we love. We share the poet and artist’s excitement and fears as we ask each other to ‘tread softly because you tread on my dreams’. Sandra's paintings invite you to share some of the vivid tapestry of memories and dreams that have inspired her.

The beautiful Villa Seerose provided the ideal backdrop for Sandra Ondraschek’s Force of Nature’ exhibition. Paintings that are too reserved risk being overwhelmed by the sometimes sombre, sometimes whimsical Art Nouveau details of this building. But the bold brushstrokes and vibrant colours of Ondraschek’s works meant they were never in danger of being overshadowed by the surroundings. Visitors were drawn into real and fantastical landscapes, sometimes soothing, sometimes unsettling. One had a sense of being at the mercy of the elements, moving back and forth between the ‘sunny spells and scattered showers’ that epitomize the Irish climate and at the same time reflect the nuances of our real everyday emotional lives.
